Product Details

Bug Bites are small cinnamon graham crackers pressed into insect shapes, sold here as twenty individually sealed one-ounce pouches. They come out of the Keebler graham line and are aimed squarely at kids, which is why they turn up so often in school cafeterias and a la carte lines. The package carries the whole grain label term.

Each pouch is a single portion, already sealed, so nothing has to be scooped into a baggie at seven in the morning. The crackers themselves are bite-sized and crisp rather than soft, closer to a classic cinnamon graham than to a cookie, and they survive being rattled around by small hands.

Pack one in a lunchbox, keep a stack in the car for after school, or hand them out on a soccer sideline. Grown-ups raid the box too, usually mid-afternoon at a desk. The individually wrapped format is the reason to reach for the twenty-count rather than a boxed sleeve.

Questions About This Product

The things people actually want to know before they cook with it.

Do these credit toward the grain component in school meal programs?
Yes. Kellanova's foodservice documentation certifies that a 28 g portion provides one ounce equivalent of grains and that the product meets USDA whole grain-rich criteria. Its non-creditable grains stay below the 0.24 oz eq limit, so the pouch credits as a full grain serving rather than a partial one.
Are they Smart Snacks and CACFP eligible?
Kellanova lists the item as eligible under USDA Smart Snacks in School standards and under the Child and Adult Care Food Program. The same spec sheet lists it as Buy American compliant, which matters to districts purchasing under that rule.
Are Bug Bites the same as Honey Maid graham crackers?
No. Bug Bites come from the Keebler graham line and are sold by Kellanova, while Honey Maid is a Nabisco brand under Mondelez. They are competing graham crackers from two different companies, in different shapes and different formulations.
How long do the sealed pouches keep?
Kellanova gives this item a shelf life of 305 days. Each pouch is sealed on its own, so opening the outer pack does not shorten the date on the ones left inside. Go by the date printed on the individual pouch.
Why are these hard to find in an ordinary supermarket?
The main channel for Bug Bites is Kellanova's away-from-home business, where the standard unit is a 210 pouch case aimed at K-12 schools and childcare centers. Smaller retail counts like this twenty pack do exist, but the product is not a permanent grocery listing, which is why it comes and goes.
Are they certified kosher?
Kellanova's foodservice spec sheet for this item lists OK-D kosher certification. The mark printed on the pouch in hand is always the one to check against.
