Melitta basket filters are the flat-bottomed, fluted papers that drop into the round brew basket of a standard electric drip coffee maker, the sort rated for 8 to 12 cups. They are not cone filters. A cone filter is wedge-shaped and only fits a V-shaped holder, so glance at your machine's basket first: round and flat means this is the one you want.

Natural brown simply means unbleached. The paper is processed without chlorine and keeps its original tan color instead of being whitened. Melitta uses a heavier stock than most store brands, which helps the filter keep its shape against the basket wall and resist tearing once the grounds are wet and heavy. Some people rinse the paper with hot water before adding coffee to settle any papery note.
