Product Details
Griottines are whole wild morello cherries, pitted and macerated in liqueur, then finished with kirsch, the clear cherry eau-de-vie. They are produced by Grandes Distilleries Peureux, a distillery established in 1864 at Fougerolles in eastern France, the area long associated with kirsch and with this style of preserved cherry. The cherries arrive whole and deep red in a glass jar, packed in their own syrup.
This product contains alcohol. The finished preserve is 15% alcohol by volume, so it is not suitable for children or for anyone avoiding alcohol. The listed ingredients are wild morello cherries, sugar, and alcohol including kirsch. Griottines are typically spooned with a little of their syrup over vanilla ice cream, folded into cakes, tarts and chocolate desserts, or used in cocktails in place of a standard cocktail cherry.
