Product Details

Torani has been making flavoring syrups in the San Francisco Bay Area since 1925, when the Torre family began bottling recipes brought from Lucca for North Beach cafes. Raspberry is one of the fruit flavors that carried the company from Italian sodas into the espresso bar era, and it is for anyone who wants cafe style drinks at their own counter.

This is the 12.7 oz plastic bottle, which is 375 ml, half the size of the 750 ml glass bottle a barista keeps on the rail with a pump screwed into it. The smaller format is the sensible one for a home kitchen: it fits in a cupboard door and you will finish it while it still tastes bright. Figure about a tablespoon per drink.

The flavor sits at the tart end of ripe summer berry rather than the candy end. Use it in iced tea, lemonade, sparkling water for a raspberry Italian soda, a white chocolate mocha, or shaken into a mocktail.

Questions About This Product

The things people actually want to know before they cook with it.

Will a Torani pump fit this bottle?
No. The Torani syrup pump is built for the 750 ml bottles and will not thread onto this 375 ml plastic one. If you think in pump measures, a pump delivers a quarter of a fluid ounce, which puts about 50 pumps worth of syrup in this bottle.
Is this the same as Torani Sugar Free Raspberry?
No, that is a separate product. The Sugar Free line is sweetened with sucralose and acesulfame potassium, and the Puremade Zero Sugar line uses stevia leaf extract, monk fruit and erythritol. This bottle is from the original line and is sweetened with cane sugar, so it is not the one to buy if you are avoiding sugar.
My raspberry latte curdled. What went wrong?
Fruit syrups are acidic, and acid hitting hot milk directly can make it separate. The fix is order of assembly: put the syrup in the cup with the espresso or coffee first, stir, then pour the milk in. Chocolate, vanilla and caramel syrups do not cause this because they are not acidic.
What is the difference between a Torani syrup and a Torani sauce?
Syrups are thin and pourable and vanish into the drink. Sauces are thick and opaque and are meant to be blended into a mocha or drizzled on top, and they come in confection flavors such as chocolate, white chocolate, caramel and vanilla. Raspberry is only made as a syrup, so this is the raspberry product for both hot and cold drinks.
Will it mix into a cold drink without settling to the bottom?
Yes. The sugar is already dissolved, which is the practical reason to reach for a syrup rather than granulated sugar in iced tea, lemonade or iced coffee, where granulated sugar sinks and stays there. Stir it in once and it stays mixed.
